Melton Primary School Project

The project with Melton Primary School ran over three days and was achieved with the help of Sian O’keeffe, an artist friend and the help of lots of parents. The children were introduced to casting Plaster of Paris into sand with the only proviso being that the final image had to have a hole in its centre. The children were given a completely free hand to make patterns within the sand and to cast the images themselves.

These little sculptures were then threaded onto specially fabricated poles (previously made and cemented into the ground) to produce a Personnage – an influence direct from Louise Bourgeous’s work.

The resulting large sculptures look like people standing talking within the wooded area of the school grounds.
