Family art workshops at Minsmere Nature Reserve

Touching the Tide, a Heritage Lottery funded project about the Suffolk coast from Covehithe to Felixstowe, funded four family art workshops at the RSPB’s Minsmere Nature Reserve over the winter of 2015-2016.

Each workshop was run by two of the Tidal Margins artists, with the help of RSPB volunteers, and each had a separate theme which gave the opportunity for families to go out into the landscape and learn about the work that goes on at the Nature Reserve. This photograph was taken during the Bird and Bat boxes workshop, which took the families out into a wooded habitat where they learnt about the boxes from RSPB volunteers and also did some drawings. On their return to the Discovery Centre/Education room the families spent the second half of the workshop producing collage images using the drawings as reference, as well as using reference from the RSPB’s education sources.

It was a very lovely collaboration between the Tidal Margins artists and the RSPB staff and volunteers and gave the families who came along to the workshops a chance to actually see and hear about the wildlife on location, and to produce some artworks under the guidance of the artists.
